Abstract

This study aims to analyze the process of cultivating a philanthropic spirit among young people through their involvement in the Rice Alms Movement Program (Gerakan Infaq Beras/GIB) at the Kapal Munzalan Indonesia Mosque. The study is motivated by the declining level of social concern among young people in the modern era, which is associated with the growing culture of individualism and a way of life increasingly oriented toward personal interests. In response to this condition, the Rice Alms Movement Program presents a notable phenomenon of active youth participation in social da‘wah activities and aid distribution. This study employed a qualitative approach using a case study design. Data were collected through participant observation, interviews, and in-depth discussions with a PASKAS leader and young volunteers involved in aid distribution activities. The findings indicate that youth involvement in the Rice Alms Movement Program contributes to the development of a philanthropic spirit through direct social and spiritual experiences. This process is reflected in the emergence of social empathy, compassion, solidarity, a willingness to share, a sense of happiness derived from helping others, and an increased level of spiritual awareness among the volunteers. Aid distribution activities are understood not merely as social activities, but also as a form of da‘wah bi al-hal and devotion to Allah the Almighty. In addition, collective participation in aid distribution activities strengthens solidarity and a sense of togetherness among volunteers. This study demonstrates that practice-based social da‘wah plays an important role in shaping the social and spiritual character of young people through direct engagement in humanitarian service activities
